Money might be a transitory thing. At least the history of media suggests that possibility. Since computers and networks are able to track and register all transactions, money is no longer the only medium that enables us to allocate and distribute resources. And, as the current crisis shows, it comes with serious drawbacks.Postmonetary practices could be built on different, network-based modes of distribution and allocation. This poses a series of fundamental questions. Do we need a general equivalent? What will happen to the concept of value? Can thinking machines and software become economic agents of their own? Where should the idea of property find its limits? How is the transition from our current to a different economy going to look like?
